Synopsis[]
Lahela considers going with Walter on his Australian surf tour when a task at the hospital reminds her that time is precious.
Plot[]
The episode starts with Walter and Lahela at the beach stating reasons they love each other. Steph and Kai are also on the other side sitting next to each other. Walter comes back from a phone call from the Global Surf league asking him to go to the world tour in Australia. Lahela congratulates Walter then they realize they'll be apart for 2 months. They tell each other that they'll make it work.
After the theme song the family is sitting near a garden. Benny is listing the plants that are planted with his "chorts" (chore-shorts) that he wears to get chores done that he's had for forever. Lahela and Kai are sitting on the couch. Lahelas planning Walter's birthday present. She's planning a beautiful cake with a large fondant topping of Walter surfing. Benny and Brian are ziplining. Benny comes down with his chorts on after ziplining. Benny explains he's going to his Uncle's house that night to chill out. Clara says she'll have the house to herself because the kids are going to Walter's birthday party. Clara bets that Benny can't spend the night without checking in after joking about long distance. Benny says she'll be the one checking in more. Clara says if he calls first he has to give up his chorts, Benny says if she calls first Clara has to ride the zipline because she was scared to earlier.
The scene cuts to the hospital, Charles and Noelani are talking and Lahela walks in and checks in about her 4 rooms that she's watching. She says she has 11 things to do that night for Walter's party and that's why Steph is picking up the cake. Lahela checks in with Steph after she picks it up. Steph is sitting with Kai and Brian. She says the cake looks amazing.
The scene cuts back to home with Clara and Benny. She introduces her Zoom Interview with the hospital board. They joke about the bet then Benny says he has to leave to go to his Uncle's house. The scene cuts back to the hospital where Noelani, Charles, and Lahela are walking through the halls where Dr. Lee asks "Who wants a special assignment?", they run to their room. Lahela gets held back and gets asked to transcribe the voice memos he makes after his procedures. She explains that she has plans that night and if it can wait. Dr. Lee tries to convince her. She has to take the assignment. The scene cuts to Lahela transcribing the voice memos.
Then it cuts to the party and Brian telling people to fix the streamers. Lahela calls Steph and says that it will take a while. Lahela asks Steph to check on the cake and finds that it is ruined, everything has fallen. Steph lies and says it looks fine, then hangs up. It cuts to a flashback of them hitting a pothole, then it cuts back. They arrange a plan to fix the cake.
The scene cuts to Benny at his Uncle's house practicing martial arts. The scene cuts to Claras meeting and the board says to expect some positive news. Clara has to resist calling Benny. The scene cuts to Lahela at the hospital transcribing more voice memos. Noelani and Charles walk in and say that they'll help transcribe the voice memos. It cuts to a montage of Kai, Brian and Steph baking a cake and the crew transcribing. The crew finishes transcribing and Kai, Brian and Steph finish with a bit of a unfortunate result. The scene cuts to Benny and his uncle practicing ukulele with his uncle talking to each other. They say to get the party started they have to start the movie. Benny has to figure out the wifi without Claras help, and he usually has troubles without her. His uncle says "I'll dust off my DVDS".
The scene cuts to Lahela arriving to the party when Benny calls her. She asks if Walters ready for the cake and ignores the call. Kai and Steph worry about the cake then they kiss. Benny calls again and finally calls back but no response. Walter suggests she visits her dad and Lahela says she doesn't want to leave. Walter says he'll drive her to her uncles. Kai and Steph are speechless. Benny says he was calling for wifi help. Lahela says "Call Mom". Uncle has some shortness of breath and dizziness. He starts to be pale. Lahela realizes he has fingernail clubbing. She figured this out because she learned what it was from transcribing Dr. Lee's voice memos. Benny is forced to call Clara, he alerts her of the issue. At the hospital, Walter talks to dad and says "it'll be okay, he has the best doctor ever.". Dr. Lee walks in and says he will be fine, if immediate action is taken. Lahela and Walter sit in the waiting room while Dr. Lee takes uncle to a operation room to replace his valve.
Lahela and Walter are talking then Clara arrives and talks to Benny outside. They hug and Clara apologizes. They talk it out and Clara helps Benny take it all in. The cake crew (Brian, Steph, and Kai) bring the cake to the hospital and show it to Walter and Lahela. Lahela's disappointed and Walter says he loved it, and it was the best birthday gift ever. Dr. Lee says he's fine and he'll be out when the drugs ware off. In the OR Uncle plays ukulele for the family. The episode ends when Benny throws out his chorts and Clara rides the zipline. Lahela takes her video journal reflecting on the day. She ends the video then looks at the medic application for Walter's surf world tour. She clicks the "Apply Now" button. The episode cuts to the credits
