Career Babes is the sixth episode of the first season of Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., and the fifth episode overall. It aired October 13, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Lahela struggles to figure out where she fits in; she’s not a normal doctor or a typical teen. She’s too young to attend Dr. Lee’s party with her medical colleagues, yet she’s hosting an alumni booth for career day at her former high school. When Lahela decides to join the popular dance team at the high school, tension builds with Steph. At the hospital, Lahela tries to reconnect two estranged sisters for a kidney transplant, and finally realizes where she’s fit in all along.[1]
Plot[]
Lahela has issues with a patient, Frankie when she fails to find her a suitable organ transplant and her condition continues to deteriorate. Lahela suggests calling the Frankie's sister, Patty, who is bound to be a suitable match, but the patient refuses, citing that Lahela can call her but she will not be calling her herself.
Meanwhile at school, Lahela and Steph are bombarded by the a group of girls who will be dancing on the school team. Steph is keen to participate but Lahela is not, but things quickly turn around when Lahela begins to bond with one of the members of the group and agrees to participate alongside Steph.
Finally, Lahela is able to get into contact with the Patty who comes to visit her. The two bicker, but the woman finally agrees to allow her sister to receive her kidney on the premise that she never has to see her ever again after the procedure.
Tensions arise between Kai when he tells his parents that he doesn't want to take the SAT's and instead would like to gain a career from something simpler such as the Shaved Ice truck his father runs. Benny tells him that he needed the business degree to help with the truck, but Kai is determined to make something of himself without the SAT's.
Despite Steph and Lahela's excitement with the dancing, the friendship between the two breaks down during rehearsal when Lahela ignores Steph and takes the side of X during their practice when suggesting moves. Steph storms out of the house and a brief argument ensues between the two in which Steph remarks that the two are no longer best friends.
The following day, Lahela tells Frankie that her operation was a success, and the two begin talking about Patty. Frankie tells Lahela that she misses Patty but this is overheard by Patty who tells her that she feels the same. Lahela opens the dividing curtain between the two and allows them to talk.
Meanwhile, Clara is surprised to find out that Kai blew off the SAT's just like he said he would. She, Brian and Benny find him working in a field. They are surprised to find that Kai is actually working rather than skipping school. Kai apologises for skipping the SAT's but tells them that he has found something he would like to spend his time doing and offers to show them around the field. They are eventually able to convince Kai to sit the SAT's when the leader of the farm explains that he went to college to pursue education around farming.
Lahela visits Steph and apologises for her behaviour and the two make up, becoming best friends once again. Lahela tells Steph that she won't dance in the Royal's, but Steph convinces her to dance with them. Lahela messes up right before the dance on purpose to allow Steph to take her place.
